Product Description
About the project:
Our stitchalong project will be the Quaker Hornbook designed by Ellen Chester of With My Needle. The wooden thread holder is in the shape of a hornbook. Hornbooks were used by school children, both in Europe and in America, for several centuries starting in the mid-15th century. In the hornbook, there are 14 holes for holding your embroidery threads. There is an additional hole in the handle for attaching a cord, if desired. Hornbooks usually had a cord so that the child could attach it to his/her waist or neck. There are two design options for you to stitch, one is stitched over one on 32 count linen and one is stitched on 36 count over two (except the alphabet which is stitched over one).
Included in the kit:
Each kit includes one walnut hornbook made exclusively for With My Needle. Each hornbook measures roughly 4 1/4 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches long. Both charts are included along with detailed assembly instructions to finish the project as shown.
Linen and threads are not included so that you may choose your own.
Additional details about the stitchalong:
The stitchalong (SAL) will begin the first week of May 2023. We will have twice a month gathering via Zoom for those participating in the SAL and when we’ve completed the stitching, we will have a finishing session led by member Cyndi S.
This SAL is for members only. Members may purchase more than one kit, if they’d like.
Cutoff date to purchase kits is March 15, 2023.
